Thanks everybody - I have my m4a's playing again. It required a slightly
different approach from the one documented in the Wiki.
I do have 2 files in my /etc/squeezecenter directory for conversion:
(1) the standard convert.conf from 7.3 (I noticed it had been
downloaded, only with a different name)
(2) the custom-convert.conf file which contains the simple entries
# Transcoding for AAC files.
# SC 7.3+
mov flc * *
# F
[faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$ | [flac] -cs --totally-silent
--compression-level-0 --endian little --sign signed --channels 2 --bps
16 --sample-rate 44100 -
mov mp3 * *
# FB:{BITRATE=-B %B}
[faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$ | [lame] --resample 44100 --silent -q
$QUALITY$ $BITRATE$ -r - -
mov wav * *
# F
[faad] -w -f 2 $FILE$
My system, a clean 7.2 install on Ubuntu 8.10, does not have a
/usr/local/squeezecenter/ directory. Given the entry in the Wiki, I
briefly considered creating one, but tried the approach of creating the
file in the existing directory first.
Should the wiki be updated with this info? Also, the installation
process for Linux perhaps should tell users that their convert.conf
file *must* be converted to the new format (as opposed to offering it
as optional), and point them to the Wiki to re-create m4a playability.
Then again, perhaps this never affected those who went for the
custom-convert.conf approach to begin with? I would now greaty
recommend people use the custom file, as opposed to editing the
convert.conf file (as I had done).
Thanks everybody again!
