I've used Clonezilla with great success. I spent some time reading the page of instructions on the "Clonezilla live" download page on the website. It's quite easy once you have been through it once - the confusing bit is when it says things like "name the directory to read from or save to" - of course it doesn't know whether you are saving or restoring at this point, but it's not that helpful as both actions require both directories!! - basically the first one you come to is the "source" (now that would be a good word for them to use here!). So anyway, I'm sure there are many ways to do this, but I myself would go with Clonezilla, it's a good tool to learn anyway.
