My experience of linux has been over the past two years and I started
from some knowledge of MSdos and basic from the year dot.

If you are prepared to start using linux and you have the time to get
over a few weeks of being uncomfortable and suffering the odd problem
you will be rewarded with a much better experience of computing and
squeezebox in particular.

Windows has many great features, but just working out of the box isn't
one of them. As an example, I help a few older people with windows
problems and some of them haven't a clue how to use a "simple"
interface with their broadband modem. They can't cope with the long
waits on the telephone waiting and waiting for some far distant
customer support from their internet service provider. I also know a
person who can't cope with the change from a television connected to an
aerial and a set top box....

I would suggest that if you are prepared to learn and get things wrong
occasionally you are almost certain to enjoy linux.

One word of warning I can give is don't use KDE 4 until you have used
KDE 3.5 for a while. This means use Kubuntu 8.04 before trying kubuntu
8.10.
