I agree that VortexBox is really one of the best to-the-point and
complete out-of-the-box solutions I've seen in a long time. Considering
that one has to fight with a zillion hardware variants and Linux package
setups, it's still become a clean "install CD, do update, and just run"
solution — even for total Linux newbies.

Kudos!

Still, I agree with gharris999 that some "easy means" of
attaching/removing at least ONE external NTFS-formatted USB disc would
be great and improve the VortexBox experience a lot.

What would you think, Andrew, about something like this:

1. If an external USB disc is attached, auto-mount it, say under
"/storage/external", "/storage/USB" or "/storage/backup".

2. Have a menu item on the main VortexBox Web UI like "Safely remove
external disc(s)" that will sync to the external drive and unmount it,
thus preparing for a safe removal.

3. Since most people would probably want to do an easy backup from/to
the VortexBox, you might even have to extra menu functions:

a) "Backup music to external disc" (rsync /storage/music to
/storage/backup/music).

b) "Restore music from external disc — WARNING: Overwrites your
libraray!" (rsync /storage/backup/music to /storage/music).

Both (a) and (b) might even check beforehand if the target disc is the
same size (or larger) than the source, and give a warning.

What do you think?
