Logitech is considerably better than some companies with regard to open
source -- all their OSS work is readily available from SVN, for
starters. And as far as I know, they aren't doing any Tivo-like firmware
lockdowns, and there certainly isn't any Android-like denial of root
access! My main beef is that it's nowhere near as easy (or appealing) to
develop for SqueezePlay as for the GPLed SqueezeCenter/Squeezebox
Server. I fear that Logitech corporate doesn't put much value on
"developer relations" and isn't allowing the Squeezebox staff to spend
much time making things better.
