So, the question remains as to why squeezeboxes cannot see Linux
servers. Does this work for anyone? I have had a Linux server going on
SUSE for many years, and squeezeboxes have never been able to see them.
I think the right ports are open since things are connected:

squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver    8u  IPv4  14161      0t0  TCP
127.0.0.1:60872->127.0.0.1:9092 (ESTABLISHED)
squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver    9u  IPv4  14255      0t0  UDP *:3483

squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver   10u  IPv4  14256      0t0  TCP *:3483
(LISTEN)
squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver   12u  IPv4  14259      0t0  TCP *:9090
(LISTEN)
squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver   14u  IPv4  14262      0t0  UDP
*:53866
squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver   16u  IPv4  15241      0t0  TCP *:9000
(LISTEN)
squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver   17u  IPv4  15245      0t0  TCP
192.168.1.9:3483->192.168.1.6:23357 (ESTABLISHED)
squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver   18u  IPv4  15246      0t0  TCP
192.168.1.9:3483->192.168.1.20:45658 (ESTABLISHED)
squeezebo 2878 squeezeboxserver   19u  IPv4  30989      0t0  TCP
192.168.1.9:3483->192.168.1.11:61944 (ESTABLISHED)

But remotely, nmap does not reveal 3483 as being open:
Starting Nmap 5.20 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2010-04-11 13:50 EDT
Nmap scan report for 192.168.1.9
Host is up (0.00035s latency).
Not shown: 988 filtered ports
PORT     STATE  SERVICE
22/tcp   open   ssh
80/tcp   closed http
110/tcp  closed pop3
139/tcp  open   netbios-ssn
143/tcp  closed imap
443/tcp  closed https
445/tcp  open   microsoft-ds
631/tcp  closed ipp
993/tcp  closed imaps
995/tcp  closed pop3s
9000/tcp open   cslistener
9090/tcp open   zeus-admin

But for sure it is open in the firewall.

So, what is happening here?

By the way, by chance I fixed my problem with controller. It let me
load a library, and when I put in the address of my linux server,
Controller then magically listed all of my squeeze devices!

However, I would like to understand this.

Thanks,
Jim
