If you are not familiar with Linux, I would recommend using VortexBox. It's installation program takes care of everything for you, including squeezeboxserver and MusicIP. It also sets up SAMBA shares where you can access your music files from a Windows machine on the network.
It is based on RedHat Linux, so if you need to drop down to the command line, you'll be able to get plenty of help. Apple lossless may take a little work, but I've read that it can be made to work on Linux. Have fun with your adventure in Linux. Your machine's specs are more than enough - you will have a very performant server when you are done. -- maggior Rich --------- Setup: 2 SB3s, 4 Booms, 1 Duet, 1 Receiver, 1 Touch.
