I’m considering updating my server software from 7.3.2 to either the
latest stable build (7.5) or 7.6. My only reason is to accommodate
getting a squeezebox touch, and the only reason I want a touch is to
get better sound (I currently have a squeezebox 2: I will use the
remote exclusively so the touch screen has no appeal for me). My
concern is that my MSI Wind barebones with a single core atom processor
running Fedora 10 might be overburdened by the newer software. Any
thoughts on this? (My current system works perfectly, and the CPU
works at less than 15 percent capacity while serving music.)

Also, I was a complete linux novice when I set up this system in
February 2009. My system has worked flawlessly since then, so I’ve had
no linux practice since then. I don’t recall how I installed
squeezecenter at the time, and I don’t know if the install files are
still on my hard drive in the event that 7.5 (or 7.6) doesn’t work out
for me and I want to roll back to my previous setup. Where would I
find them?

When I log into my MSI machine remotely from my windows machine,
squeezecenter is not listed as an application despite the fact that it
is serving music. (I assume it is version 7.3.2 because that is what
is on my VISTA machine.) I do see a squeezecenter startup service when
I go to Administration>Services. But I see no way to find the version
of the software that is installed.

So, to sum up, I have three questions:

1. Will 7.5 (or 7.6) likely overburden my computer?
2. Should I go with 7.5 or 7.6. The beta forum suggests 7.6 is pretty
safe.
3. If I did a standard install of version 7.3.2 in February 2009,
would the setup files be on my hard drive now and, if so, where would
they be? (I did attempt to look in var/rpm directory, but I got an
error indicating a problem with my remote hookup—to look there, I will
have to attach a monitor and log in directly.)

Thanks in advance for your help.

Randy
