Big thanks to bpa! I've got this working now! BBC live and on demand - scanned my music library on a NAS machine - excellent!
Overall, the performance of the server is acceptable - much slower than my Windows version, but given the hardware it's running on I'm not too surprised (and the whole system is b/g wifi). Thanks to all who helped with this project! (I'm sure I'll run into some other issues ....
