Are we clear on the intended use case ? With a server capable of the heavy lifting (transcoding) you can use any file format it simply plays .
But the use case of a "weak" server and the decoding may be best done in the player . Are are we aiming at a very "slim" player implementation like in the old days :) However supporting codecs natively ,is it really bloat ? maybe in the context of a very restricted platform for the player ? is the goal to make it run on very very limited hardware . For example the Touch itself can do more native codecs and run the UI on very whimpy specs ? Is the goal to make this work on even weaker hardware like a really old nas with 64Mb ram or something ? For my use case it's already done it can use the spotify plugin and if can't do all formats my server will , I can even use the sligthly better lame floating piont implementation of mp3 by setting the server to transcode . ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Mnyb's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=4143 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
