Are we clear on the intended use case ?

With a server capable of the heavy lifting (transcoding) you can use any
file format  it simply plays .

But the use case of a "weak" server and the decoding may be best done in
the player .

Are are we aiming at a very "slim" player implementation like in the old
days :)

However supporting codecs natively ,is it really bloat ? maybe in the
context of a very restricted platform for the player ? is the goal to
make it run on very very limited hardware .
For example the Touch itself can do more native codecs and run the UI on
very whimpy specs ?
Is the goal to make this work on even weaker hardware like a really old
nas with 64Mb ram or something ?

For my use case it's already done it can use the spotify plugin and if
can't do all formats my server will , I can even use the sligthly better
lame floating piont implementation of mp3 by setting the server to
transcode .
