Thanks for the info but it didn't work.
New Music search always causes server connection lost after 45 seconds. 
Leaving it a couple of minutes reconnects to music source server but at
default menu position ie Now Playing.
A full clear & rescan takes 25 hours & isn't that reliable as it
sometimes hangs.  If I clear & rescan on my quad core cpu, 16gb RAM
server, it takes about 13 hours.

My mate has a small linux server based sys & his works OK.  I've asked
him to post details of his to compare & contrast my hardware.

Perhaps you can look at this & see if any other solutions spring to
mind.
