Hi Steen,
I have bad news and goods news. First the bad:
Above settings did not make any difference. So I've given up trying my
V-DAC II to work. Reading on the internet forums learns me that this is
a known problem and probably has to do with the firmware/hardware of the
RPi.

And now the good news. I remembered I had an old Edirol ua-1ex USB DAC I
did not use anymore since I have the MF V-DAC II.
I would give it a try with:
-o hw:0,0 -n piCorePlayer -a 80:4
And it's unbelievebale but it playes like a charm. No clicks or pops,
just wonderful music. It works ok with 16b 44K and 24b 44k. But 24b
48/88/96K won't play. I tried all the micro swithes at the bottom but no
luck.

I tried plugging it out switching back to the analog 3.5 mm jack te see
what happenes. No problem at all. Without changing the settings my
Raspberry Pi now plays with USB dac or analog output. The only thing I
had to do was plugging out one of the two and do a reboot.

Thanks again for trying to help me out.
Greetz Willem
