I'm wondering if this is a clock synchronization issue.HDMI uses the video clock to clock the samples at the receiver, IF the CPU happens to be setup so that it is using the audio clock to generate the audio data stream rather than the video clock, you might get strangeness in the receiver when an internal buffer over/under flows. Different receivers may respond differently to this situation.
