Thanks for explaining the math. I didn't realize it would be sending 32 bits... I tried changing the -b buffer size option. Not really knowing what I was doing, I tried -b 500:500, which seemed like it must be lower than default because I got a couple of breaks in the playback with that setting. I also tried 5000:5000. Both settings still resulted in the buzzing noise at 23 minutes into a 96kHz flac album.
