To be clear, the website design includes the web site layout and branding, wiki, forum, blog, bug reporting, (and the layout/branding of all those components so it looks like a single coherent site rather than the usual open-source dogs dinner), all via a single sign on. I personally have no issue with a wiki, but for me, it doesn't all start and end with a wiki. It is a tool. Nothing more, nothing less. And some of the documentation I have asked for, specifically needs to be made available on the device via the web-gui. I'm not convinced that having the wiki as the source of that documentation is going to a) make it more likely that others will contribute that documentation and that I won't have to write it anyway, and b) is going to add an intermediate step anyway, converting it from the wiki format to website/web-gui format without the wiki specific mark-up.
With regard to your comment about me being an intermediate step, that is not a role I want. And is why I have been working on and discussing a build system where the non-technical can make a change to a doc file or translation, push a single button on the website, causing the source to be pulled from git, the package to be built and pushed to the testing repo. I'm trying to extricate myself from the process, not trying to take on more. erland wrote: > Since everything is planned to be non commercial (unless I've missed > something).... I'm not sure where you are going with that, but anyway.... No worries on that score. If I wasn't before, (and if it has anything at all to do with me), I'm 100% convinced of the necessity of making sure, (as far as possible), that 3rd party commercial interests cannot "leverage" the community project for financial gain. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ JackOfAll's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3069 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98544 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
