Changing the volume does not change the distortion.

The distortion volume remains at a constant level regardless of the
actual volume setting except for the lowest setting which silences it as
well.

Performing a soft power off and on clears it up.

I'm going to start using the 24 bit USB DAC now to try and reproduce.
