Just to report I have been running 24hrs+ with no problems now, previously I would have gotten my distortion problem within 12 hours. I tried a few things but what seems to have done the trick is starting squeezelite with -o iec958:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 this is specifically the SPDIF output of the USB chip (CM6631), that seemed to make sense as my box is USB>SPDIF rather than a full DAC. To be honest I really do not understand what difference this would make from using "sysdefault" and I have seen others use "front" but it seems to make sense in terms of how I am using the USB chip and seems to have worked for now.
