Well, Portage won't let you have both installed together as it stands,
so yes, unless you want to do a bit of hacking... there may be file
collisions between the two versions so it's probably best avoided. And
its not like you can *use* both simultaneously...

Code:
--------------------
quickpkg --include-config=y squeezeboxserver
--------------------
This keeps a package on your system ready to quickly reinstall. However
these packages can go "stale" after a while as their dependencies get
upgraded on your system. In fact if you do an emerge -uD world, you'll
probably find this is the case immediately (as keeping the masked build
installed for this long will have probably held back a lot of other
upgrades).

IIRC I never had to migrate config when upgrading; this was done by the
ebuild (apart from you'll need to update /etc/conf.d/logitechmediaserver
with the contents of /etc/conf.d/squeezeboxserver).

logitechmediaserver uses SQLite database, and if you've been using an
external MySQL server you'll find this well-nigh impossible to set up
(well, I did - I gave up in the end).

I can't recall noticing much difference with the upgrade; perhaps others
can say more about that. One thing is it has a UPnP service now, which
can be useful if you have non-squeezebox devices you also want to
provide your library to (videos too).
