Aha! I had an unusually perceptive moment and spotted why the Perl
downgrade was forced. 

The DEPEND line for amd64 reads:

  amd64? ( <=dev-lang/perl-5.14[ithreads] )
  
--------------------

But that does in fact rule out 5.14.2 (anything above 5.14.0 in
effect).

Not sure if this is the most "proper" syntax, but it allows for any
5.14.* version (or below 5.14 if required by external deps, as per the
intention I guess)

Hoping this'll get my system moving a little now: world update list has
just hit 299 packages, mainly due to good ol' LMS :(

NB. The same alteration would be applicable to the x86 line too.
