OK, just to be certain, you aren't trying to use the Pi with both the
wireless *and* fixed network connections in place at the same time, are
you? You should only use one or the other, not both. Use "sudo
powerdown" to shutdown the Pi, disconnect the fixed network connection
from the Pi, then restart it, wait for the blue light to start flashing
away on the WiFi adaptor and then run your checks. If the blue light
goes out on the adaptor then it looks like the network connection isn't
staying up.

Finally, you can check whether wireless devices can communicate with
each other via the router using the ping command eg, by pinging your
mobile from your Mac. Not sure how you ping on a Mac, but I'm sure a
search will turn up something. Or you could connect your Mac to the
physical network and see if everything works then. I can't tell what the
security setting might be on your router - they tend to use different
terms for the same thing.
