I tested creating, mounting, unmounting and deleting a cifs share and it seems to work ok. There are a few things I noticed: 1. For each mount the webpage creates two credentials files; both are the same except that one of them has an empty password field. There is a slight difference when the share was mounted with the persist option or not. The above process is true when the share was mounted without persist option. When persist is used, the webpage creates also two credentials files where one of them has the .bak extension. In this case, both files hols the password. Is there a reason why this is different for both persist cases? 2. When unmounting the share, these files don't get erased. There is a third file created (.bak) when the mount is deleted (in case when the share was mounted without persist option). This might not be a big issues but in the long run one could end up with a lot of useless files sitting in the credentials directory. 3. When I mount a share with persist option then the password is listed in clear text (webpage). While when its mounted without persist the password field is empty. Why is there a difference? The password is still available in the credentials file so there is no need to display the password in clear text (might be safer not to display it?). 4. When deleting a mount that had the persist option check, the line gets commented out in fstab but not deleted. The system does not re-use this entry when re-creating the share (with persist option checked). Same comment here, we might end up with a very long fstab file after a while.
