I'm feeling a bit old and thick. I have LMS on one xubuntu box. On a venerable Sony laptop (xubuntu 12.04) squeezelite 1.6 will play fine via a Meridian Explorer USB DAC using -o hw:... syntax, and also with no parameters via the internal (circa 2003) sound system and pulseaudio.
On my main desktop ubuntu 13.10 PC, squeezelite with the same Meridian Explorer USB DAC specified using hw:.... syntax works perfectly. However, very occasionally when I'm lazy and just want sound, rather than good sound, and use pulseaudio (ie no -o parameters) I just gets get pops. Yesterday it worked with 1.6, today it won't. I have no idea why... LMS 7.8 on VortexBox Midi running Xubuntu 13.10, FLACs 16->24 bit, 44.1->192kbps. Wired Touch + EDO, coax to Musical Fidelity M1 CLiC. Wireless Xubuntu 12.04 laptop controls LMS via Chromium. Meridian Explorer USB DAC to listen via Squeezelite on Vortexbox & other PCs as required.
