The problem with Boombox might be that that it has 3 profile (incl. HSP because of microphone and also therefore codecs and AVR because of play control on top) and I'm pretty sure the Pulseaudio 4 support does not support them all. The problem I had with BT "manager" such as Blueman etc. was that they tried to go beyond simple audio connection and because of shortcomings in BT functionality in BT had problems.
