Jole, In your case, Daphile is probably going to be the easiest for you to setup and use. If you wanted to compare SQ with another Linux setup I'd be inclined to try a VortexBox install as an alternative.
http://info.vortexbox.org/ http://info.vortexbox.org/tiki-index.php?page=Begin http://info.vortexbox.org/tiki-index.php?page=Howto There will be functions you don't necessarily need, but it's relatively straightforward to install (requires attached monitor and kbd) and can be administered remotely via the VortexBox web configuration pages. It runs Logitech Media Server (LMS) and if you use the "local player" LMS plugin, it will effectively be using squeezelite as the player. Otherwise it's a case of picking a linux distro whose software sources include a package for LMS, and possibly squeezelite if not using the "local player" plugin, and deciding it you want to use a text based command line only Linux system, or need a desktop environment for ease of use on your server. To administer the server remotely you will either use ssh to give you command line access, or combine ssh with vnc to display the server desktop on another machine. LMS/squeezelite can be installed once you have your basic Linux system up and running on your server. This option will require a willingness to learn at least the basics of installing, updating and administering a Linux system. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Krisbee's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=59080 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=97046 _______________________________________________ unix mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/unix
