I really do appreciate your help here. Yes debian recognises and lists at the tip of the gnome window audio device SB X-Fi analog stereo. LMS does successfully scan music files. My previous problem was my own stupidity of having accidentally bookmarked the set-up screen (..../setup)instead of just IP:9000.
