Thanks very much for the response.

well, on that last point, you are -completely- correct - don't know what
I was looking at when I made that statement.  Pays to measure twice and
cut once!

And apologize for the omission... Wheezy 7.5 - 3.10.17 (from
http://www.armhf.com/boards/wandboard/#wheezy) on a wandboard quad. 
Using squeezelite-armv6hf binary as-is from squeezelite-downloads... in
other players, but no squeezelite yet on the wandboard, hence my
original post.  Want to use ALSA.

Thanks for the ldd command - that's really helpful.  Can you help me
understand why the need for the -dev versions?
