Really depends on your requirements. If you are using the speaker of the
old valve radio, I am pretty sure that will be the limiting factor, not
the rpi audio (or the amp).

That's what I did too. Mine was tricky as it was a high-end radio with 3
speakers (+ capacitive tweeter), but most effort went into the
multi-color leds to simulate tube glow and "warming up" :)
