What you have to do is connect the pi via ethernet cable to your router, when it is on the lan you find the IP address and open that in a browser. All this is explained on the piCorePlayer website, so that is what you have been doing wrong, not reading the instructions:p If it is a rpi2 it might pay to increase the USB outlet power.
