Sam - are you using the Triode version or the Ralphy version of Squeezelite? I cured some issues (I didn't have the 10 second glitch) by switching over to the latest Triode version. I am using the Raspberry B with HDMI cables, so although I am rigged up differently than you, the switch might be worth a try.
