Actually, not sure I can take any real credit for the IR support. ISTR,
I grabbed the code, that someone else had "appropriated" from
squeezeplay, did minimal work myself. Adrian wasn't too keen on how the
threading was working, with the slimproto thread, so he worked his
magic.....

Erm, does pico include the lirc daemon?

I don't think I ever tested anything on Pi with 3rd party receiver, even
though I do have one. I regularly use with BananaPi's and Pro (that has
on-board receiver) and with NUC's (which have on-board CIR).

I use one of two client side configs. (the -i option to squeezelite)

For Touch remote, 'lircrc-touch'
(http://www3.squeezecommunity.org/lirc/lircrc-touch). For VRC1100 (a
Windows Media Centre remote), 'lircrc-VRC1100'

Back-end lircd config.... 'lircd.conf.VRC1100'
(http://www3.squeezecommunity.org/lirc/lircd.conf.VRC1100) or
'lircd.conf.squeezebox'
