Oh boy!!!! You really don't want to go down that particular rabbit hole. That patch set was applied at one point in time. It stayed applied for far longer than it should have done despite the complaints. (It resulted in at least two types of breakage, that I'm aware of.) It was finally reverted before they made the last Raspbian build...... because they didn't want to ship a new Raspbian release with the breakage caused by that complete lash of a multi-channel PCM ALSA patch......
