I haven't looked at the code for quite some time, but IIRC squeezelite
is only going to open alsa dev with 2 channels. ie. stereo. kodi (or
OpenELEC or LibreELEC or whatever it is called now) AFAIK was capable of
DTS passthrough over HDMI, which is how I think anyone who has ever
played anything multichannel through the Pi, has been doing it. Even
with that multi-channel PCM patch applied to the ALSA driver, it would
still depend on squeezelite opening the alsa driver with a channel count

Perhaps that supports DTS passthrough? I have no idea. Multi-channel
isn't one of my interests..... But just thinking out loud (without much
thought being put into it), fundamentally if squeezelite (the client
playback app) is only ever going to open the ALSA dev with 2 channelss,
I don't see how it could work, from piCorePlayer.
