I haven't looked at the code for quite some time, but IIRC squeezelite is only going to open alsa dev with 2 channels. ie. stereo. kodi (or OpenELEC or LibreELEC or whatever it is called now) AFAIK was capable of DTS passthrough over HDMI, which is how I think anyone who has ever played anything multichannel through the Pi, has been doing it. Even with that multi-channel PCM patch applied to the ALSA driver, it would still depend on squeezelite opening the alsa driver with a channel count > 2. Although ISTR that the Pi ALSA HDMI has a IEC958 subdevice. Perhaps that supports DTS passthrough? I have no idea. Multi-channel isn't one of my interests.....
