Nowadays the 3rd-party plugin list in LMS web interface Settings/Plugins
is where to find most and via magic* that list is updated
automatically.
There are some plugins that you install by adding individual
repositories into LMS configuration but usually only to access special
builds on plugins that are under development or for other good reasons
... for example to avoid a clash/confusion with a pre-existing plugin
(BBC iPlayer springs to mind)

It is technically possible to install plugins by other means but with
current LMS it is very unlikely to be needed unless you are developing
your own plugin and even then it has risks.


* Michael Herger has a script that collects data from individual
repositories and merges it into the list in LMS - seems to happen
automatically a few times per day
