Yes, it makes sense to minimise the writes to the flash I think.  I'm
hoping, unless someone points out the flaw in my interpretation, that
the Joggler version of Ubuntu achieves the same result.  From 'this wiki
page' (https://www.jogglerwiki.com/wiki/Ubuntu_Internal_emmc):

So for me personally the Ubuntu route seems a lot more straightfoward
(given my abject failure to get anything to boot into TinyCore or
Alpine), since the available build is already configured/patched to deal
with the specific hardware on the Joggler (emmc, screen brightness
adjustment etc).
