I did that also without adding an IP adress in the cmdline.txt.

Connected to the router, I was able to see it. I have set up the wifi
via the web interface. I have shutdown pCp and have removed the ethernet
cable.
And... (suspense)....it was not visible on the network and the wifi was
not working. But I will try again with the different methods to set up
wifi, may be one will work.
