Thanks for the reply. The problem occurs with the Pi on Ethernet and WiFi disabled. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the bluetooth software and disabled and reenabled the onboard bluetooth. I have also tested that the bluetooth works on the board by running up Moodeaudio and using the bluetooth functionality that comes with that software.
