Hello Ben, Hello Michael,
My husband and just spent the weekend getting LMS up and running on our new TrueNAS. We got a BIG leg up with Simone's Wiki page, 'Logitech Media Server and FreeBSD/FreeNAS' (https://audiodigitale.eu/?p=87). To repeat what I said in the Forum thread, '[FreeBSD/XigmaNAS/TrueNAS] LogitechMediaServer Installation' (https://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?113909-FreeBSD-XigmaNAS-TrueNAS-LogitechMediaServer-Installation): Everything worked so well, I was surprised when one of my Albums simply would not play. After about half a day of reading code, searching forums, and head scratching, we discovered the root cause: ALAC transcoding support requiring an LMS-specific version of faad2. The FreeBSD instructions, and the FreeBSD port were using upstream faad2 instead of the ALAC-aware version of faad2. In the other thread I expressed the opinion that: 1. The maintainers of the FreeBSD instructions and Port should be engaged to incorporate the ALAC-aware version of faad2. 2. That getting the ALAC-aware updates require a non-trivial rewrite to get them into upstream faad2 but that that work should be considered. 3. That, although the shift to the Forum as the basis of truth in the changing world of LMS makes sense, and that marking the legacy wiki pages as read-only makes sense, it would be ideal if an additional summary were available to make it easier to know what took my husband and I half a day to discover through google searches and swimming in the Forum. The biggest benefit would be to folks like Simone and Ben who need to know how to gather the correct pieces into their ports. @mherger: Am I right in believing that the current heavy hitters in LMS maintenance prefer to keep everything documented in forums.slimdevices.com, rather than going back to the wiki model?
