Hello All

I was able to upgrade my OSX 10.0.4 to 10.1 using the Sonnet
Installation software
The drill is to go to the Sonnet OS X site, download the free Update
V1.1,open it and it automatically updates the previous version 1.0 to
V1.1( the $29 one!) Insert the CD and install as before. Piece of cake.
Just follow screen prompts , provided you have NO PCI video card
installed!

I was able to obtain a free copy of the OSX Update CD from my local
CompUSA store
( rt 22 in Springfield, NJ)

I see response time improvements in all areas except opening Classic.
It still takes "forever" to open.

My USB Epson printer and Kensington wheel mouse / Keyspan PCI USB card
work OK, as before.

I had a "problem" with browser IE5.1. When I booted up , there was no
IE5 icon in the Dock. Opened IE5 in the Applications Folder., and paced
icon in Doc. All worked OK. Favorites were all in place, untouched.
IE5.1 screen graphic is a "grayish" color.
But when I opened Apple-Mac OSX in the doc, or the Apple menu, the old
10.0.4 aqua graphic appeared but there was no URL link. Also, a second
bouncing IE5 icon appeared in the Dock. Also, there were no URL links
using e-mail and the browser.
This tells me that I have two versions of IE5 in the system, but I can
not find where. What I have done is to keep the Apple menu/ Apple Doc
icon / original 10.0.4 aqua graphic in the Doc and trashed the other.
All works OK as before with auto URL link opening when using e-mail or
browser hyper text, etc. I assume that there is a way to select the
updated IE5.1 (graphic )in 10.1, but so far can not figure out how to do
it in the Apple-Unix -BSD world of OS X

BTW
I have an external SCSI Apple Color One scanner and an external
LaCie(Yamaha) burner/ Toast configured.

Has anyone developed a "patch" to use either one or both in OSX
without booting back into 9.1?

Also, has anyone developed a "patch" to use a PCI video card ?. Mine is
an ATI Rage 128 Orion 16MB

And , can the above EVER be done with an "unsupported PCI mac"?

albert
