All OK... I had the same problems, if you are using Unsupported Utility X, use 2.0b3. There is a change in how 10.1 loads kernel extensions and so you have to install the old world extensions to disk for compatibility. I have an ATI Radeon and the patches did not want to work with X unless I have a connector on the internal video port (second monitor, adaptor, dongle, etc.) and I see no video signal till X boots and changes the resolution, the same point the system would crash without the ATI patches. Anyway, UUX 2.0.b3 will allow you to set the input and output settings for Open Firmware. When you boot into X press command-option-o-f and you will get the OF prompt. At the prompt type: dev pci1 <return> dev (name of your card reported in Apple System Profiler.) <return> " (name of your card reported in Apple System Profiler.)" <return> model <return> boot <return> Note on line 3, the space between the open quote and the first letter of the name of your card, it's not a typo, it has to be there. For example, my configuration is: dev pci1 <return> dev ATY,RADEONp <return> " ATY,RADEONp" <return> model <return> boot <return> You have to do this on every boot at the moment but the author of UUX is working on a way to fix this. Anyway, you are smart to wait for a while to use X as a permanent system.
