Do you have the same audio problems in OS 9.x? This sounds more like a
hardware problem then an OSX or ATA/PCI card problem. The OSX audio
problem on Old World machines is: simply the sound control at the top
right of the finder doesn't really work it is either on medium or off
at the bottom. However not a big deal as volume controls in apps like
iTunes etc do work. The ATA PCi card audio problem is audio stuttering
mostly playing audio cd's. your problem sounds more like maybe the
audio ou plug going bad. Which it can if you plug and unplug things .
The microphone jack can also go bad and cause the same problem usually
happens if you use that jack a lot. So testing audio in OS 9 would tell
you if that is the problem. A loose or broken wire could also be the
problem. Just a few ideas to check later Will S
