Just finished the monster updates needed to make my Jag install run current. The installation to my 7600 / G3 400 / 350 mb of RAM was a rousing success after updating the firmware to my Promise (VST) ATA card.
Despite the lack of video acceleration because of the Voodoo3 card, X is pretty speedy all things considered. At first boot it was terribly slow until I bumbled my way through the installation of the L2 CacheConfig app. Now the speed difference is amazing. I get a little lag when I drag windows, but all runs well!
Now I need to contemplate a new video card. I cannot afford one of those Radeon 7000's. I have read here that the Rage 128s are accelerated under Jag. Any other ATI cards worth the green? Currently there's a Voodoo3 2000 driving my Sun monitor at 1024x768. I guess I could get a little boost if I dropped to 800x600 for now.
Thanks for the help, folks. I finally have an X capable desktop in my home office.
