Hi listers...

I just got a Promise ATA / 66 PCI card in the mail from someone on the swap
list. I popped it into my 7600 based G3 upgraded machine and booted into
OS9.1 via my 1 gig SCSI drive in there. At first the Western Digital 40
gig drive did not show up. SCSI probe showed it was there on a third bus.
The Apple System Profiler saw it as a SCSI device.

I ran Drive Setup and it saw the drive as an ATA. I partitioned it with 8
gigs for X, 10 for music, and 20 for working space. I ran XPF 2.2.5,
selected the appropriate device, allowed it to load the extensions and
restart.

Now at this point I walked away as the inital boot process takes a while.
When I came back I was greeted by the familiar installer screen from OS
10.2. I went through the read me, etc. When it came time to select a hard
disk for install the ATA drive was not even visible let alone greyed out.
I ran the Drive Utility, and again, nothing was there on the ATA side of
things. My 1 gigger SCSI was there no problem.

What can I do about this? I posted a question here asking about the
compatibility of these Promise cards and I was told "they work just fine".
Am I doing something wrong? I used the latest version of Drive Setup that
I had--OS 9.1's. I made sure that the first partition on the drive was 8
gigs, just in case and selected that as my install target.

I am going to try the 3.0 beta and see what happens.

Please, if any of you have any suggestion, I want to make this work.
