So does this mean if I change the VRAM chip in the Pismo with a pin (and voltage) compatible VRAM of higher capacity (say go from 8meg to 16meg), then I will have Quartz Extreme?

Alas, no. Even if you were quite the accomplished electrical engineer, you need a Radeon or Nvidia 32 MB AGP card. And you thought upgrading from 8 to 16 MB was a pain...
