Can you see the system folder for OS 9 in the classic control panel? If you can, have you tried going to the advanced tab and selecting "open extensions manger" in the startup optinons, then "start classic". I wonder if it will load the extensions manager for you? It may ask you permission first to update some resources in classic. If you get the extensions manager, maybe you can try starting with a base set. Also, perhaps updating to 9.2.2 may help getting to work again. Let us know.

Of course I can boot directly into OS 9.2.1, but not into Classic when I
am in OSX.
