OK thanks for the info.
It is not really a problem now because new portlets can be created from
ANT during the building of the portal and I am in the middle of
development and I'm just checking if my i18n patches will work in the
latest trunk.

So I could probably do my experiments by having several differently
configured portlets, instead of changing the configuration of a single
portlet while live. Any option of creating and configuring portlets from
ANT on a live instance or maybe changing directly in the database? Will
that work or I still need a restart of the whole portal?
