Hmm, I guess I'm misunderstanding, because I'm not seeing this... can you give an example of a core GNOME app where this is happening? Any combo box I can find on my desktop, the menu position is adjusted to be entirely visible if necessary when I click it, so I still get to see all the options. One problem I do see is that the item under the mouse is always immmediately highlighted whether or not it's the current selection, when in fact the current selection should be highlighted regardless of the mouse pointer position until you move the mouse again (or change the selection with the arrow keys).
