Before sharing, I first want to be sure everything is working fine.

I'm now having trouble with Scope and the Surface Geometry shader, again :(
Tried to make layered materials controlled by a custom channel. AArgh, the
bumps don't react to Common Properties scope. Sounds familiar? An old enigma...
Can't find anything about the channel sample objects External: and Object:.
Any info about this?

Exterior refers to the material 'outside' the object we're dealing with: this is mostly useful only if you do custom refractions.
Object just changes channels on per-object basis, as common properties (IIRC) is only run once per material (this might be your prob btw.).
 

If I can't solve this, i'll just have to forget about more landscape
rendering in RS, it's that serious.

Could you provide us with a minimal test case ?
