Nice trees Mark!
Here's my wip. There are 22500 trees in this scene www.xs4all.nl/~joly/temp/forest.jpg It's nothing much yet, just experimenting. Already very nice too Arjo! I chose a completely different approach to the tree. It has no individual leaves but rather a texture of complete twigs with leaves on a polygon. I have to find out what shape is best for the leaf object. It should not be a simple square polygon but it should mimic the bunch of twigs with the smallest amount of polygons possible. That should hide the cardboard effect a bit. When you have large arrays of trees the smaller branches can easily be part of a multi-leaf texture, like you do. Since V5 I've been using OnyxTree for foliage but in V4 and perhaps V3 I used multi-leaf textures that I made in Painter. Painter's spray nozzle has some nice features for this, like adjustable size, -direction, -color etc. of objects. Each completed texture in my case represented a few hundred small leaves. The leaves faded to black towards the sides of the texture, just to overcome the "cardboard" effect of the polygon's as you mention. (black was the fading color in the leaf material) I'm explaining all this because I'd have to search very hard to retrieve those textures. If you think them usefull I'll give it a try, only not untill friday I'm afraid. Regards, Frank Bueters
