Guys,
No disrespect but Gary is a side show with respect to Realsoft and this
list. The real elephant in the Room ( or in the corner ) - to coin that
oft
used phrase - is "WHERE IS RS IN THE WORLD OF 3D APPS at the moment?"
My two cents - its not at the races anymore. It has fallen WAY behind any
of
the other apps out there. Even Lightwave have recognised this - they have
now stopped the old LW at v9.6 - any further development is now around the
new CORE app, boldly they are starting from scratch, ground up. Buy LW 9.6
now and you get CORE straight away in its infancy - included in the price!
Other apps of note - the relatively new kid on the block, MODO. An
imminent
new release is in the off - v4.01. Now thats the way to do things via what
they call a REVEAL - This reveal is occuring AT the MODO Site (
www.luxology.com ). Straight away - the WOW factor to grab NEW USERS and
old
alike. Luxology have paid huge attention to education both vast free Video
training available at www.luxology.tv and reasonably priced Video sets
for
$5-$25 each. I notice the last update to www.realsoft.info is December
2008.
That's interesting stuff Aidan, thanks for the links!
I have to defend RS here a bit - second nature ;)
It's a really productive tool to me and still worth every penny I ever spent
on it - starting with V1.4 on an Amiga. An experienced user can work
insanely fast with RS!
VSL would be the thing I'd miss most dearly if I'd migrate to other SW.
I read some reviews about Modo, a mixed bag but generally very positive. But
it's not complete: no character animation, no particles... clearly one
rather small part in the pipeline.
But the Luxology website is great, hats off.
There was a discussion before, about allround beasts like RS vs a long
pipeline of separate specialized tools. Both have their cons and pros.
If only RS would be more integrateable in studio pipelines... it would only
add to its value.
Their Plant and Building tools are worth it alone! Why not sell them as
plugins for 3dsMax or Modo ;)
my 2 more cts (this is getting expensive)
