For years now I have been using the simple "Quick Time Pro" application 
for all video and sound editing.
It's the best investment since it can convert to any video format and 
any codeck at any resolution and frame rate.

And contrary to much more supposed powerful application it is very low 
level, so importing many separate images file to create a video is very 
easy.
It is a guy from Softimage that told me that "secret" 9 years ago.
